Tailor-made project cargo operations for the petrochemical sector in Europe

Transporting oversized industrial components requires a precisely designed project cargo logistics approach — clearly visible in the petrochemical sector, where delivery timing and proper coordination directly impact the entire investment process. Projects of this kind involve large-scale equipment and tight operational windows, where even minor delays can affect installation progress.
This approach was applied in a project delivered for Technobell d.o.o., where Rohlig SUUS Logistics coordinated the transport of oversized components to the plant of the oil and gas company MOL in Százhalombatta, near Budapest (Hungary). With cargo originating from multiple locations across Europe, the project required the design of a synchronized, multi-origin logistics setup and precise execution aligned with the installation schedule.
Tailor-made transport solutions
Depending on the cargo specifications and origin, we organized oversized cargo transport using a combination of FTL and LTL road transport, as well as cross-trade operations across multiple European markets, such as Italy, Poland and Germany.
Each shipment required individually tailored transport solutions, including:
- selection of specialized equipment adapted to oversized and heavy cargo,
- securing the necessary permits,
- detailed route planning taking into account infrastructure constraints, road limitations and escort requirements typical for project cargo,
- full documentation management in line with OOG requirements, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards.
To further increase reliability, we decided to shift from inland waterway transport to road transport. This allowed us to shorten transit times, gain greater control over delivery schedules and eliminate risks related to waterway limitations and handling complexity.
As a result, the entire transport process became more predictable and easier to align with the project timeline.
Schedule-driven execution
A key element of the project was strict alignment with the installation schedule.
Deliveries were planned to ensure:
- fixed delivery windows aligned with plant shutdown schedules,
- synchronization with on-site crane availability,
- coordination of multiple suppliers across different countries,
- compliance with strict requirements for oversized cargo transport.
This level of synchronization enabled a seamless transition from transport to installation.
Proactive coordination
The project was managed through continuous monitoring and active coordination of all stakeholders. By maintaining close contact with suppliers and tracking production progress, we were able to identify risks early, adjust transport plans dynamically and maintain full control over the delivery timeline.

By combining precise planning, active coordination and operational flexibility, we delivered all shipments on time, ensured full alignment with the installation schedule, avoided disruptions during the critical assembly phase and maintained full control over costs, safety and compliance.
