Precise route planning, selecting proper transportation solutions for oversized cargo, strict loading and unloading schedules, and the need for special permits across multiple countries—these were the key aspects of the transport service we carried out for a thermal desorption station weighing up to 28 tons from Romania to Spain.
Our task was to transport a thermal desorption station from Iași, located in northeastern Romania, near the border with Moldova to Madrid, Spain. This is a specialized device used for cleaning soil or other materials contaminated with substances such as oil, chemicals, or toxins. The biggest challenge in this project was the oversized dimensions of the cargo. The largest elements measured 14.3 meters in length, 3 meters in width, 3.2 meters in height, and weighed 28 tons. The entire project was loaded over the course of two weeks.
What logistics solutions did we implement to ensure efficient oversized cargo transport?
- A critical aspect of the project was managing strict loading and unloading schedules. The customer had fixed time slots for both pickup and delivery, which we had to follow very strictly. This required careful planning of the entire operation.
- We selected the proper solutions for transporting these oversized shipments. The entire operation relied on road transport, utilizing a total of 23 trucks, including 9 Out-of-Gauge (OOG) trailers and 14 standard tilt trucks.
- We precisely planned the most optimal route. It passed through Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, France, and Spain. Covering a route of more than 3,500 kilometers took two weeks. Each stage of the route was carefully analyzed not only to comply with local road regulations but also to ensure the selection of roads suitable for oversized transport—avoiding sharp turns, low bridges, viaducts, or other obstacles that could hinder the smooth passage of large cargo.
- We also obtained the necessary permits in each of these countries for transporting oversized goods. Two types of permits were secured: permanent special permits valid for up to two years and single-trip permits for extraordinary dimensions.
