SUUS expands customer support in Silesia with new customs warehouse in Sosnowiec

Rohlig SUUS Logistics recognizes the dynamic economic development of Silesia and is enhancing its logistics services for companies in the region. As Poland's largest logistics operator, it has opened a customs warehouse in Sosnowiec to provide even more effective support for businesses involved in importing and exporting goods. This marks the operator’s eighth customs warehouse in Poland.

 

SUUS, a specialist in comprehensive supply chain management, offers an extensive range of logistics services for clients in Silesia. In Sosnowiec, the company operates a facility with a total area of approximately 19,000 square meters. This complex includes a high-bay warehouse (approximately 11,000 sq m), a transshipment terminal (around 8,000 sq m), and now a newly added customs warehouse.

Additionally, the SUUS customs agency is located in Tychy, while the logistics warehouse in Gliwice is set to double its operational capacity in the fall, expanding its area to 20,000 square meters. With this growth, SUUS will manage nearly 40,000 square meters of logistics space across the region.

We are witnessing the modernization of the Silesian Voivodeship and its transformation from a mining monoculture into a modern industrial and technological cluster, with the automotive industry playing a significant role. On one hand, an increasing number of foreign companies are investing in the region. On the other hand, local businesses are growing dynamically, boldly expanding into international markets by exporting and importing goods. As a result, companies operating in Silesia require comprehensive logistics services, including warehousing, distribution of finished products, transport of raw materials and components, as well as customs services. These services have a direct impact on both cost and time efficiency. In response to these needs, we decided to expand our local capabilities by opening a customs warehouse in Sosnowiec,” says Rafał Małek, Regional Director at Rohlig SUUS Logistics.

Silesia serves as a vital logistics hub for many companies, facilitating trade with countries in Central and Eastern Europe (including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary) as well as Southern Europe, such as the Balkan countries, Italy, and Greece.

“The primary purpose of a customs warehouse is to defer the payment of customs duties and taxes—such as excise duty and VAT—until the goods leave the warehouse. This allows businesses to better manage their financial liquidity and inventory levels based on demand. Additionally, for re-export, customs warehousing eliminates the need to pay customs duties and other tax liabilities. It also enables remedial actions, such as addressing issues identified by the Customs Office, like deficiencies in product marking or missing documentation required by EU or national regulations,” explains Mirosław Kłósek, Customs Services Director at Rohlig SUUS Logistics.

“When goods are stored in a bonded warehouse, we can also perform various added-value services, such as wrapping, adding operating instructions, banding and labeling (e.g., for alcohol), or enhancing the product’s appearance or commercial quality,” he adds.

Customs services are a key component of SUUS’s comprehensive offering, especially for clients operating on a global scale. The Polish logistics operator has 14 customs agency branches, 9 temporary storage warehouses, 8 customs warehouses, and over 60 recognized locations. Each year, the company handles approximately 150,000 customs clearances for road, sea, air, and rail shipments.
