SUUS Logistics is testing a new electric-powered delivery van

We’re testing a Volkswagen e-Crafter downtown Warsaw. After week of test driving we have found it to be its natural environment. This is where the advantages of driving such vans are the greatest.

The electric-powered Volkswagen Crafter left the Września manufacturing plant in September 2019. Aside from being electric-powered, it’s not really any different from its diesel equivalent, which premiered three years earlier. In the e-version, the cargo space is 10 cm lower, and the cargo being moved can weight no more than 1720 kg.

It boasts a 100 kW (136-hp) electric motor with maximum torque of 290 Nm. Due to being electric-powered, the van’s maximum speed has been capped to 90 km/h which is more than fine for any urban drivers. With these specs, the manufacturer-claimed range is 173 km (per NEDC standards).

Initial Test Drive Findings

For now, our test drive covered 250 km over 50 hours, all driven across Warsaw. What are our initial findings? The van runs quietly which improves the overall driving comfort. Acceleration is another advantage, because unlike fuel-powered vans, the maximum torque is available from the very start, and the van allows for smooth acceleration.

Several driver support systems offered by Volkswagen Crafter, among them a parking sensor and a backup camera, make maneuvering downtown easier.

Last, but not least, let’s not forget that work is continuing to increase the reach of electric cars. Because of limited reach, the decision on whether to opt for an electric car must be well thought through, and rides have to be well-planned. We’re sure to be test driving this model for some time to come.
